Is Spring Finally Here?

One thing is for sure - this winter has been long and cold. The first day of Spring was yesterday, and we can feel it in the air. The grass is green from the winter snow. The robins have found their way to our yards and are in search for worms. The daffodils are starting to show off their green sprouts. All signs that winter will soon be a distant memory (hopefully) and we can stay out in the sunshine a little longer.

In-store shopping is returning to normal levels, as people venture out for some retail therapy. Instagram and Facebook are alive with spring ideas to refresh your home, get your garden projects started and decorate for Easter. So why not whet customer appetites with a little spring forward inspiration?

Here's a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Promote Spring in your store. Flowering branches and pots of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths will put customers in the mood. Now is a great time to put on an indoor plant sale to refresh a customer's living space.

  2. Offer baskets of blooming bulbs to give for Spring, changing up the traditional Easter lily gift. You can do a lot of great plant creations in a basket. You don't need to buy expensive baskets - check out second hand stores and Goodwill for some treasures. Make sure they are deep enough for planting and line them with heavy duty plastic to keep plants intact.

  3. Offer a series of gardening tips on your social media to engage your customers. As a result of COVID, gardening has become more popular than ever and consumers are always looking for "how to" tips.

  4. Offer a workshop on how to make a Spring arrangement using flowers, branches and incorporate some added items, like faux nests, eggs and colorful ribbons.

  5. Offer a step by step guide on your website or social media on how to plant an outdoor planter. You can plant staples that will last through the spring and summer, and switch out some blooming plants as the weather gets warmer.
