Roses are universally the most popular flowers grown worldwide and June is the prime season for local rose production.
Roses play a role in religion, art, literature, music, medicine, fashion, home decor, food, perfume and more. Before they made an appearance in Europe and the new world, roses had been grown for thousands of years throughout Asia and the Orient. Today there are over 30,000 rose varieties grown in the world.
These days large, flagrant garden roses aren't restricted to gardeners alone. They are available in many colors, varieties and sizes. They are a popular choice for weddings. It's their fragrance, high petal count and “cup” (or rosette) bloom shape that commonly characterize “garden roses” and differentiates them from “standard roses”. Garden roses are far larger (usually 3-5 inches wide) and more lush than other varieties and it takes only a few stems to make a big impact.
It can be hard to choose the right ones - but these are our favorite garden rose picks available now:
White or Pink O'Hara
Wedding Spirit
Country Home
Alabaster
Lemon Pom Pom
Available later in the summer are these luscious varieties below. Try a few of these and you won't be disappointed.
All these roses are from our farm in Ecuador
